Security Advice

Amateur security advice, but you should listen to me for some reason.

It may seem a little black and white to label things as either "Use" or "Avoid." I realize there are some issues with almost everything, and it will sometimes come down to the individual's needs weighed against their threat model. If you need to use legacy carrier-based communications or Telegram because the people (or companies/organizations/institutions) you need to speak to are using them and won't install a better app, then that's a compromise you'll have to make. Most of the software I recommend avoiding is marketed specifically for privacy/security, isn't good at providing either, has no meaningful network effect, and therefore can and should be avoided.

This resource would not exist if it weren't for GrapheneOS. They post extremely useful information on X, and this resource is currently mostly just archiving that information in a way that is easy to find. Please support GrapheneOS if you care about privacy/security. They make very good use of donations.

I am not affiliated with GrapheneOS or any project I mention.
