System freezes

I've been experiencing something similar. On Ubuntu 24.04 I can mount a veracrypt volume file and browse the files just fine in nemo. If I try to browse files with gthumb about a minute after starting I will get a system-wide freeze requiring a hard reboot. I try once every month or so hoping that it is either a kernel, veracrypt, or gthumb issue that will soon be resolved.
