About media transfer protocol

I don't have any idea about how file managers or file systems work but wanted to know if installing this file manager be enough to identify my locally connected mobile devices such as ios or android and be able to transfer files to/from those devices.

I did come across a similar discussion but that wasn't about devices like ios or android
