Is 'User defined Metadata' anywhere in scope?

Hi, Just re-found this project!
I am looking for a file manager to allow user-defined metadata to be edited and stored inside various file types.
Then to allow searches across this metadata.
Dont panic yet - I have a prototype module that does the metadata management for 'image' and 'office' type files which account for 98% of my files of interest.
Simplistically, to replace the highlighted area .....

with the user defined data (as currently seen in Windows) ...

I am not sure if this is what you would call an 'Integration'
