Description of issue

I am using the install script straight from the brew.sh homepage and just updated my system (fresh restart).

I am able to successfully manually curl the json file, that the brew install script fails on, from my terminal.

There's your problem, the curl snap downloaded fine, but couldn't write the file into your home directory's cache. IIRC, this is related to snapd's normal security confinement. You either have to reinstall the curl snap with the --classic flag, or uninstall it and install the normal Debian package version, i.e. apt install curl.

Would it make sense for the installer to test for and reject curl snaps?

PR merged. @nottoseethesun, if you still have /snap/bin/curl installed, can you try running the latest installer script? It should warn about ignoring the curl snap, and if it's the only curl you have installed, it'll also error out telling you to install a (different) curl.
