Description of issue

HOMEBREW_CURL_PATH and HOMEBREW_GIT_PATH environment variables seem to be ignored by `brew update`

Issue

I had an "issue" installing brew (unsupported) on Linux (CentOS Linux 7 (Core) x86_64). It seems that brew update ignores the global variables HOMEBREW_CURL_PATH and HOMEBREW_GIT_PATH. Is this expected?

Install (attempt)

export HOMEBREW_DEVELOPER=1

IIRC this is required in order to use HOMEBREW_{CURL,GIT}_PATH.

It's empty. But why might brew use sh rather than $SHELL?

Oh.... I was missing the export in my .bashrc. Thx. Now I have a git error.

What's the output of $HOMEBREW_GIT_PATH --exec-path?

It turned out I was incorrectly installing git from source (partially running the make ... commands thinking I only disabled documentation stff). Not sure what the output would have been, maybe ~/.local/bin.

I ended up deleting it and doing spack install git && spack load git which resolved the issue.
