Table cells with "<" can get collapsed

This bug came up in the wild while making edits to https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/18-013a-calculus-with-applications-spring-2005/pages/study-materials/ for another reason. A minimal reproduction is described below.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create a new page in OCW studio and add a table like the one below:
   

   (<c| is a hacky way to make a bra. The "nice" way would be with mathjax, via \langle c |.)

2. Save the table

3. Re-open the table

Expected Behavior

Table looks the same

Actual Behavior

Table looks like:
