Within the text editor, hold down ALT-SHIFT and then select down-arrow on number-pad to extend cursor to next line. When you release the keys, a character is placed at the cursor (basically the char for ASCII 0x2).
The ALT character selection should be disabled when using SHIFT with ALT key.
