Attribute metadata?

Is there a way to store additional metadata about an attribute. For example, I have a case where we want to have multiple values called 'title' stored for an entity instance (an Article for example), but those titles may come from different sources (a webscraper, an admin ui, etc). I'd like to be able to store and retrieve the title, but scoped to a given source.
