Environment

Emacs version: GNU Emacs 29.4 (build 1, x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.24.43, cairo version 1.18.0)
Operating System: EndeavourOS x86_64
Evil version: 1.15.0
Evil installation type: MELPA
Graphical/Terminal: Graphical (Wayland)
Tested in a make emacs session (see CONTRIBUTING.md): No

Reproduction steps

Assuming starting from an Emacs install with no config:

  • Copy paste quickstart config from evil's README to init.el
  • Start Emacs

Expected behavior

There are no warnings

Actual behavior

The following warning is printed in the Warnings buffer

⛔ Warning (comp): evil-vars.el:561:25: Warning: the function ‘evil-delete-backward-word’ is not known to be defined.

Further notes

Evil still works on my machine, though a quick internet search show that people encountering this warning when using Emacs on Windows are unable to use Evil at all.
