Align UP and LEFT not working as expected

When using the 'LR' rankdir attribute, this is the graph that is generated.

I was wondering if there is a way to generate a graph like this?

I assumed if I was to use the 'UL' align attribute for the graph that this would create the desired effect, but when I use it I end up with this:

If anyone would have some ideas they would be really appreciated!

It seems like what I want is to use LR for rankdir along with DR for align, but it seems that setting align to DR behaves the same way it does for unassigned...
