Add a chat bot to CNCF.io. As requested by @caniszczyk here. More conversation here.

Hello! Thanks for flagging this. Let's revisit this after KubeCon Detroit (Nov 2022) timeline. If we can't kick it off by EOY, let's make this a priority for 2023. Before she left, Katelin briefed @onlydole and me on this but I don't think we have bandwidth to kick it off before KubeCon.

I'm a big +1 for GPT-4 or something similar!

I did a quick scan of the current state on the chatbot market. If we take the primary use-case of this to be providing a way for the user to ask questions about our Training and End User info, as @caniszczyk mentioned above, so that we can improve our conversion rates, then I can see a few types of chatbot solutions:

1. A ChatGPT chatbot solution designed specifically for WordPress

WordPress plugins:

Pros:

  • They are integrated with WordPress backend
  • Open source
  • Cheap ($49/year)
  • Both plugins listed seem to have a lot of momentum

Cons:

  • The ChatGPT part of these plugins doesn't seem as evolved as the offerings below and is probably harder to set up
  • Training the models doesn't seem straightforward

2. A Generic ChatGPT trained bot

Options:

Pros:

  • Easier to set up
  • A closer match with our use-case

Cons:

  • Expensive ($49/month and up)
  • Not open source
  • There's a lot of churn in this space and it's not clear which company and product is the best and will last

3. A non-ChatGPT old-school chatbot

Options:

Pros:

  • Integrated into our CMS
  • Hubspot would be free since we already have it and I think LF already has a Drift account

Cons:

My inclination is to use a ChatGPT WordPress plugin, option 1, but if integration into HubSpot is important, then we could further research how people are integrating HubSpot Chat with ChatGPT. It seems it's only a matter of time before that works well. If there's enough interest in pursuing a particular option I can take the next step and set up a POC.
