Posts submitted through API appear on Profile but for nobody else

Made a little bot for fun/learning. It posts a daily picture post. After posting, the post appears on the bot's profile and in its timeline, and if I query getAuthorFeed they show up in there, but they never appear to followers and sometimes disappear completely.

The bot is hoffbot.bsky.social
The first three posts that appear there were posted manually through the app. The remaining items were posted by the bot.

I can share source code if it'd help

I did see #2388 but the discussion/resolution there didn't seem to be relevant to this, but perhaps I'm not understanding.
Any help would be appreciated
