is it possible to prevent OpenAI from adding punctuation at the end of a string?

Using the updated GPT-3.5 Turbo, I often get a period added to the end of a suggested translation when there is no period in the original string. I have attempted to instruct OpenAI not to do so in the Translator Profile configuration:

You are a highly skilled translation assistant for [such and such a sector], adept at translating text between languages with precision and nuance. You always reply with translated string only. You do not include transliteration. You keep XML tags in place, but you do not add any XML tags that are not in the original string. You do not add punctuation at the end of a string that is not already in the original string.

But that doesn't seem to help, I'm still getting a period added to the end of the suggested translation string. Any suggestions on how to tailor OpenAI in such a way that the extra punctuation will not be added to the suggested translation?
