The documentation in https://escomp.github.io/cism-docs/cism-in-cesm/versions/master/html/new-grids.html should be reviewed and updated for the new CMEPS coupling interface. A good time to review this could be in conjunction with https://github.com/ESMCI/cime/issues/4097 ("Need runoff mapping files for CESM-CISM's Antarctica grid"), which will involve creating new mapping files.
